  Hello, it’s Raven and if you’re reading this, you’ve stepped into the liminal and quiet corner of the internet where my stories begin. After the successful release of The Late Returns, book one in the Banksia Cove Mysteries, I am now writing in three different worlds at once. They’re wildly different, yet strangely connected.    I wanted to open the door just a little and let you peek in. Firstly I will be returning to a world I thought I knew, Banksia Cove.  The first project continues a story already in motion, familiar characters, familiar shadows, but deeper stakes. I’m discovering new corners of this world, new truths about the people who live in it, and new questions I didn’t realise I was asking the first time around.   Hello lovely readers, it’s Raven  I thought it was time to pull back the curtain and share where each of my three current projects is sitting. All three are growing in such different directions that my desk looks like a cross between a paranormal library, a monster ethics symposium, and an architectural studio in the clouds. For the second book in the Banksia Cove Mysteries, this week has been all about crafting a new character, Matilda, the main character’s sister. She arrived on the page unexpectedly (as sisters often do), suitcase in hand, well travelled, clever, and pregnant. She’s a freelance journalist with a knack for uncovering stories, which immediately complicates life in a town where secrets, ghosts, and magical artefacts prefer to stay hidden. Her presence adds a new emotional layer to the protagonist’s journey, and her pregnancy brings both tenderness and tension to the narrative.   The cafe I loved to write in at night Night Cafés and the Creatures That Keep Them Company There used to be a café I liked to write in at night.    It no longer exists except in the soft architecture of memory. It wasn’t remarkable in daylight just a busy local cafe but    after dark, it changed as most cafés do. They loosen. They breathe differently. The hum of the espresso machine becomes a kind of heartbeat, the shadows lengthen, and the people who drift in seem to belong to a slightly different world. Night cafés are liminal by nature. They’re thresholds disguised as businesses. They collect the ones who can’t sleep, the ones who think better in the half light, the ones who feel most themselves when the rest of the city has gone quiet. I always felt that it was possible that something supernatural could happen at a café table at 11:47 p.m., with a cooling cup of coffee and a notebook open like an invitation.
