From the Desk Of Raven Starfenne - New Projects
Hello, it’s Raven and if you’re reading this, you’ve stepped into the liminal and quiet corner of the internet where my stories begin.
After the successful release of The Late Returns, book one in the Banksia Cove Mysteries, I am now writing in three different worlds at once. They’re wildly different, yet strangely connected. I wanted to open the door just a little and let you peek in.
Firstly I will be returning to a world I thought I knew, Banksia Cove.
The first project continues a story already in motion, familiar characters, familiar shadows, but deeper stakes. I’m discovering new corners of this world, new truths about the people who live in it, and new questions I didn’t realise I was asking the first time around.
It’s a book about love, loyalty and the quiet ways we change when no one is watching.
The second story has been haunting me for years.
The second project is something I began long ago. It is a paranormal tale that has refused to let me go. It’s atmospheric, unsettling, and threaded with the kind of magic that feels like it could be real. This one is about the thin places, the things we sense but can’t explain, and the people who walk between the seen and unseen.
Thirdly I am creating a book made of ink, paper and dreams.
The third project is something new for me, an illustrated book for adults.
Not a picture book but more like a story with drawings scattered through it, the way memories or dreams interrupt a day. It’s tender, strange and whimsical. A book about healing, imagination, and the parts of ourselves we forget to listen to.
Why share all this now?
Because each of these stories is growing, shifting, and teaching me something different. I want this Substack to be the place where I explore that process openly.
For these three projects I want to share:
• fragments of scenes
• sketches
• the themes that keep circling me
• the strange research rabbit holes
• the emotional truth behind the writing
Some posts will be reflective.
Some will be tiny stories.
Some will be glimpses into the worlds I’m building.
If you stay, you’ll see these three books take shape, slowly, honestly, and with the kind of magic that only happens when a story is still becoming itself.
Thank you for being here.
All my love
Raven
